What makes barracudatranslations different from general agencies?
We work exclusively in specialist domains: corporate and financial, legal and sworn, patents, pharmaceutical and medical, and full localisation projects. We do not take general translation assignments because our translator network is built around domain expertise. For complex content, this means the translator already understands the subject matter before starting.
Are you ISO 17100 certified?
Yes. Our quality process complies with ISO 17100, which covers translator qualification requirements, workflow standards, revision procedures and project management for professional translation services. For pharmaceutical and medical content, we additionally follow FDA and EMA translation guidance.
How do you handle patent translation specifically?
Patent translation requires translators who are also patent attorneys or technically qualified in the relevant field. Our patent translators hold qualifications in engineering, chemistry, electronics or biology depending on the subject area. We also understand EPO, USPTO and JPO filing format requirements, which matters when submissions are rejected for formatting rather than technical content.
Can you handle pharmaceutical regulatory submissions?
Yes. We have handled CTD module translation, IND submissions, SmPC documents and patient leaflets for clients submitting to EMA, BfArM and national European health authorities. Translators working on pharmaceutical content are qualified in pharmacology, biochemistry or medicine and are familiar with the controlled vocabulary requirements of each authority.
What is the difference between certified and sworn translation?
A certified translation includes a signed statement from the translator affirming accuracy. A sworn translation is produced by a translator who has taken an official oath before a court and whose certification is legally binding in Germany and other EU jurisdictions. We provide both, with sworn translation available for documents submitted to German courts, authorities and official bodies.
How do you price corporate and enterprise projects?
Package pricing applies to defined project scopes. For enterprise clients with ongoing or high-volume needs, we establish a framework pricing agreement with defined rates per word, per certification and per add-on service. This is reviewed annually and adjusted based on volume. Contact us for a framework pricing discussion.
